Integrations
Set up Discord alerts.
Pingvella posts to Discord through a webhook: a private web address that lets a message be posted to one channel. You create it in Discord, then paste it into Pingvella.
1. Create a webhook
You need the Manage Webhooks permission on the server.
- In Discord, hover over the channel that should receive alerts and choose Edit Channel (the cog).
- Open Integrations, then Webhooks, then choose New Webhook.
- Give it a name (for example Pingvella). You can also choose a different channel for it here.
2. Copy the webhook URL
- Open the new webhook and choose Copy Webhook URL.
- It starts with
https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. Keep it secret: anyone with it can post to that channel. - Choose Save Changes.
A webhook posts to one channel. To alert more than one, create a webhook for each and add each to Pingvella as its own destination.
3. Add it to Pingvella
- On the Integrations page, choose Add Discord.
- Give the destination a name, paste the Webhook URL, then save.
- Use Test on the destination. Pingvella posts a test alert to the channel; if you see it, you are done.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Likely cause |
|---|---|
401, 404 or Unknown Webhook | The webhook was deleted or the URL was copied incorrectly. Create a new one and copy it again. |
429 | Discord is rate limiting the webhook. Wait a moment and try again. |
| No message appears | Check you are looking at the channel the webhook belongs to. The webhook shows its channel in the settings. |
