Set up Slack alerts.
Pingvella posts to Slack through an incoming webhook: a private web address that lets a message be posted to one channel. You create it in Slack, then paste it into Pingvella.
1. Create a Slack app
- Go to api.slack.com/apps and sign in to your workspace.
- Choose Create New App, then From scratch.
- Name it (for example Pingvella), pick your workspace and choose Create App.
Your workspace may require an admin to approve new apps. If you can’t add it, ask them.
2. Create a webhook for a channel
- In the app’s settings, open Incoming Webhooks and switch Activate Incoming Webhooks on.
- Choose Add New Webhook to Workspace, pick the channel the alerts should go to, then choose Allow.
- Copy the Webhook URL. It starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/. Keep it secret: anyone with it can post to that channel.
A webhook posts to one channel. To alert more than one, create a webhook for each and add each to Pingvella as its own destination.
3. Add it to Pingvella
- On the Integrations page, choose Add Slack.
- Give the destination a name, paste the Webhook URL, then save.
- Pingvella posts a confirmation message to the channel straight away. If you see it, you are done. You can also use Test on the destination at any time.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Likely cause |
|---|---|
invalid_token, no_service or 404 | The webhook URL is wrong or was revoked. Copy it again from the app’s Incoming Webhooks page. |
channel_not_found or channel_is_archived | The channel was deleted or archived. Create a new webhook for a channel that exists. |
| No message appears | Check you are looking at the channel you chose in step 2, and that the app hasn’t been removed from the workspace. |
